Voter turnout saw a dramatic jump in Indiana County from last year to this year, with the Presidential elections being seen as the main reason for the jump.
According to the county’s unofficial election results, a total of 42,265 votes were cast for Tuesday’s general election, with 32,897 votes cast on election day and the remaining 9,368 votes counted yesterday were mail-in or absentee ballots. This represents 81.68% of Indiana County voters casting a ballot in some form for the election. Last year, in a non-Presidential election year, 39% of county voters took part in the election. County Commissioner Mike Keith said that he was impressed with the turnout numbers, saying the bump was due to the race between Former President Trump and Vice President Harris.
One concern was the problems that plagued voters in nearby Cambria County, as their polls were allowed to remain open until 10 PM due to software issues with their voting machines. Cambria County election officials decided to go to paper ballots, which caused delays, and a judge allowed the extension of time for polls to remain open to allow everyone an opportunity to vote. Keith did not report any problems, saying things ran smoothly for the elections in Indiana County.
