Those experiencing hardship in paying utility bills now have the opportunity to garner some relief.
Peoples Natural Gas said the Dollar Energy Fund is now available for individuals and families in need. Eligible customers can receive grants of up to $500 and they are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To qualify, customers must have a total gross household income of 200 percent or lower than the federal poverty level and meet several requirements. They are:
- Gas service is off or in threat of termination
- Applied for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)/Crisis benefits (when available)
- Account is for residential service (single family or apartment)
- Name on the account is an adult currently living in the household
- Made a good faith payment to the account (within the last 90 days of applying for the grant)
A DEF income calculator can help customers determine their eligibility and those interested can go to hardshiptools.org/MyApp or call their local DEF agency.
