The Purchase Line school board authorized retaining counsel in a class-action lawsuit against a major medicine company at their meeting Tuesday night.
Superintendent Patricia Berezansky said the litigation is against pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly out of Indianapolis for the rising cost of insulin, and how it has affected school districts in Pennsylvania and across the country. Berezansky said taking part in this lawsuit will hopefully help district families.
Solicitor Matthew Gieg will represent Purchase Line in the lawsuit.
Berezansky also recommended that the board consider consolidating designations for substitute nurses within the district in an effort to raise their pay rates. Several Indiana County school districts have raised their rates for LPNs and RPNs, but Purchase Line’s financial situation doesn’t allow room to match that increase. Should the merger happen, nurses would fall into one designation, allowing rates to be raised. The board plans on discussing that at next month’s meeting.
