Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained unchanged for the 13th consecutive month.
The statewide unemployment rate for the month was 3.4%. The 13-month streak is the longest streak on record since the state started keeping unemployment statistics in 1976. By comparison, the national unemployment rate also held steady at 4.1%.
The state civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, went down 25,000 over the month to 6,531,000 in October. Resident employment saw a dip of 26,000, which drove the decline in the labor force.
The total number of non-farm jobs in the state went down 1400 over the month to 6,204,700 in October. While jobs increased in seven of the eleven industry supersectors, the largest movement in any one group was a 4500-job drop in professional and business services. Leisure and hospitality and other services saw record high job levels last month.
County-wide unemployment statistics are expected to be released later this month.
