Officials with the Pennsylvania Game Commission are hopeful that Sunday hunting restrictions will be lifted next year.
For the next three Sundays, hunting will be permitted for all anything that is in-season. That means for this Sunday, archers can hunt for Deer and for bear in wildlife management units 2B (Allegheny county area), 5B (York, Lancaster and Lebanon area), 5C (Lehigh and Berks) and 5D (Delaware and Philadelphia counties), and all hunters can go for squirrel, pheasant, rabbit, grouse and others that are in season right now. Next Sunday, Bear season will be officially open and the following Sunday will be rifle deer season. For these three Sundays, hunters on private land must carry written permission from the landowner. And even though many are thinking about Thanksgiving turkey right now, hunters cannot hunt turkey or migratory game birds on the next three Sundays.
Game Commission Communications director Travis Lau said that the bill to lift the ban on Sunday hunting passed the State House in June, but remained in the Senate until the session came to an end. The bill will need to be reintroduced at the next legislative session which starts in the new year.
