The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education holds its quarterly meeting in Harrisburg over the next two days, and one of the items on the agenda is a new academic program at IUP.
The Governors will be asked to approve IUP’s proposal for a master of science degree program in athletic training, which would join similar programs at three other State System schools in replacing bachelor’s degrees in the field of athletic training, changes mandated by a new standard by the four boards which certify athletic training degrees. The industry has decided that the initial degree in the field must be a master’s.
The governors will also set the tuition rates for out-of-state undergraduate students at each university. At IUP, the rates include 145 percent of in-state tuition for students in the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics partnership, which involves students from China. First-time freshmen and transfer students from the state of Indiana, and from Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia will pay 170 percent higher than for in-state students. That rate will apply also to out-of-state students with a GPA of at least 3.0, and to international students admitted since 2013. All other out-of-state and international students at IUP would pay 250 percent of in-state tuition.
IUP does not have any property acquisitions or construction projects on the quarterly agenda.
