As snow is predicted to hit our area later this week, PennDOT is announcing that they are getting ready for the winter season.
PennDOT District 10, which covers Indiana, Armstrong, Jefferson Butler and Clarion Counties, has 7000 miles of road that they plow in snowy conditions, and their 166 plow trucks, 40 loaders, 10 graders and 19 anti-icing trucks will be ready for the winter season. PennDOT has released several tips for driving in winter conditions. They include.
- Turning low beams on in snowy conditions, even in the daytime, to increase your visibility to other vehicles.
- Turning off cruise control on snow-covered, wet or icy roads.
- Slowing down on snow-packed roads
- Always wear your seatbelt
- Pack a winter safety kit that includes a windshield brush or scraper, food, water, warm clothes and other supplies.
- If the storm is bad, stay home if you don’t have to travel.
