Shoppers are already awake and out at the big box stores today for the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season known as Black Friday.
Many of the larger stores were open around 5 or 6 this morning, but the day is also seen as a big day for some of the local businesses as well. Mike Messina, co-owner of Lorelli’s Jewelry in Indiana said he is optimistic that this year’s season will be good for them.
Josh Rosenberger with the 700 Shop is also optimistic that this will be a good year for sales.
Indiana County Chamber of Commerce President Mark Hilliard said local retailers are hoping that the boom from Black Friday and Small Business Saturday will continue through the holiday season.
Downtown Indiana will hold Small Business Saturday tomorrow and will continue their Downtown Dollars promotion where $1 in Downtown Dollars will be given out for every $10 purchased on Saturday at participating businesses.
