A former United High School bus driver was charged yesterday with 34 counts of corruption of minors for having an improper relationship last year with a 16-year-old girl who rode his bus.
30-year-old William Cassatt Jr. of Homer City was drove for Tri-County Transportation of Northern Cambria, a contracted student carrier for the United School District. He is not driving for the district this year.
Police say the girl’s father found inappropriate messages from Cassatt on his daughter’s cellphone. He is accused of have improper physical contact with her “when he took her home…to dinner at McDonald’s, and…in the back yard of his house.” Cassatt hired the girl to baby-sit his three children last summer. According to the criminal affidavit, he admitted he flirted with the girl and sent her inappropriate texts, but both he and the alleged victim denied that they had sexual relations.
The charges are all misdemeanors. A preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled before District Judge Susanne Steffee. Cassatt does not yet have an attorney listed on his online docket sheet.
