It’s officially winter, and while that means it’s “indoor season” for a lot of folks, for many it’s an opportunity to get out the cold-weather gear and enjoy the outdoors.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources publishes an online winter report for its state parks, including Yellow Creek State Park in Indiana County, listing snowfall amounts and ice thickness for those who wish to do some fishing. The report is updated weekly, and sometimes more often during the winter months. Yellow Creek does allow ice fishing, but check the report before you go. Ice must be at least four inches thick for a single angler and seven inches thick for a small group.
Snowmobiling is also available at Yellow Creek in a designated 350-acre plot that includes forest and fields. Access is from the beach/day use area. ATVs, UTVs, and cross country skiing are also permitted at Yellow Creek.
