A kitchen was destroyed inside a Homer City apartment building on Monday.
Firefighters from Homer City, Indiana, Black Lick, Blairsville, Coral-Graceton and Brush Valley were called to 63 East Indiana Street shortly before 2 p.m., along with the RIT Team and Citizens’ Ambulance. Clyde and Aultman crews were called in roughly 10 minutes later to assist.

John Clark, a resident in the downstairs apartment, talked about what he saw when the fire sparked.
Homer City Fire Chief Terry Gardner described what crews saw when they entered the building.
Gardner adds no one was hurt but the kitchen is a total loss. Traffic was rerouted while crews were on scene but reopened about an hour later.
Members of Homer City American Legion Post 493 assisted first responders on scene by donating cases of water and welcoming them inside to warm up once their assignment was complete. Gardner thanked them for their generosity, saying “they are always a big help to us. We appreciate any help we can get.”
