Lavada M. (Johns) Sensabaugh, 96 of Commodore, PA., passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of Earl G. and Blanche (Laney) Johns, born on August 22, 1928, in Green Twp.
Lavada was a loving mother and grandmother, who cherished time with her family. Lavada spent much of her life as a dedicated caregiver, first at The Willard Home, and later at Bash’s Personal Care Home. She was known for her strong work ethic and her unwavering devotion to others. With her best friend Alma, Lavada looked forward to the Cookport Fair each year and enjoyed spending her Thursdays at the Twolick Valley Senior Center. She was also a faithful churchgoer and found great peace in attending Sunday services. Lavada had a passion for the simple pleasures of life. She loved gardening, having campfires, and spending quiet moments swinging on her porch, taking in the beautiful landscape around her. Above all, her family meant the world to her, and she will be remembered for her warmth, love, and dedication to those she held dear.
Lavada’s family would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to Christina, Dave, and Cameron Yoder for opening their home to Lavada for the last four years. Through their unwavering strength and deep devotion, they cared for her with love and compassion until her final moments. Their kindness and selflessness during this time have meant the world to them. Lavada’s memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Lavada is survived by her two children, Donald E. Sensabaugh and wife Karen, Paula McCombs and Brad, four grandchildren, Quinetta and husband Dallas Buterbaugh, Christina and husband David Yoder, Erica and husband James Methven, Eric McCombs, eight great-grandchildren, Rachel, Chace, Dereck, Austin, Cassidy, Cameron, William, James, and five great great-grandchildren, Hazel, Charolette, Kaiya, Evelynn, Gunther.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years, Merrit Sensabaugh, one son, Merrit Wayne Sensabaugh, two brothers, Donald and Rothard, two sisters, Velma, and Wilma, and four special friends, Alma, Winifred, Ruby and Carl.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 4 to 8 pm at the McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St., Clymer. Additional visitation will be on Thursday, from 10 am to 12 pm with her funeral service following at noon with Pastor Al Nolan, officiant. Interment will be made in the Cookport Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donation be made to Make a Wish Foundation.
