Paul “Scott” Swales, 71, of Shelocta, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his home.
A son of the late Paul A. and Mary L. (Stebbins) Swales, he was born April 28, 1953, in Clearfield.
After 36 years working in mobile maintenance, Scott retired from Penelec. He was a member of the Shelocta Sportsmen’s Club, Burrell Township Rod and Gun Club, NRA, Indiana County Sportsmen for Youth (ICSFY) and Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC). Paul was also a hunter/trapper education instructor for over 30 years, presenting the muzzleloading portion of the program. For over 25 years, he was instrumental in organizing the Youth Field Day each summer at a local sportsmen’s club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon (Heaton) Swales; three siblings: Brenda Kennedy, Arnold “Boo” Swales, Dr. Thad Swales and numerous nieces and nephews. Of special importance to Paul were “the boys”, Wilson and Ryder Putt.
Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Hilltop Baptist Church, 1859 Rt 286 Hwy W, Indiana, PA 15701, with Pastor Jack Lucas officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to the Burrell Township Rod & Gun Club, 404 Devinney Hollow Road, Black Lick, PA 15716.
