The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Josephine on Sunday
Surveying teams were inspecting damage from Derry to Blairsville and at Yellow Creek State Park on Monday and confirmed that the EF-1 storm had peak winds of 105 miles an hour. It touched down in a field near Barrondale Road, causing a barn to collapse and lifting the roof off an outbuilding before it moved to a wooded area, causing sporadic hardwood tree damage. The storm then damaged a second barn before going into another forest.
Crews from the National Weather Service were assisted by Indiana County’s Emergency Management Agency. They also thanked members of the public who reported the storm and helped in the investigation.
Three other EF-1 tornadoes were reported in Westmoreland County, including one that touched down near Ligonier, along with storms in Donegal and West Fairfield.
