As the weekend came to a close, strong winds came into the area and those winds knocked down trees and power lines, disrupting power to many residents.
From about 8:00 to 11:30 last night, Indiana County emergency crews were kept busy as the high winds came through. Emergency crews responded to 17 calls for trees, wires and poles down in that three-and-a-half hour time period, starting with Perry Township Fire Department responding to a call to Route 119 North in North Mahoning Township. Most of the fire calls came to the south-western parts of the county, as a majority of the calls were in the Conemaugh Township area. White, Center, Blacklick, Armstrong and Cherryhill Townships along with Clymer, Blairsville and Marion Center boroughs also saw calls where lines were reported down.
As you drive today, there may still be some tree limbs down on the roadway, so please be careful.
Emergency crews were not only dealing with those calls. Saltsburg Fire Department was called out to investigate a smoke-in-structure case in Conemaugh Township, and Clymer, Marion Center and Cherryhill Township along with Team 900 and Citizens Ambulance were called out for a structure fire on Hancock Street in Clymer Borough. Blairsville Fire and Police Departments were also called out for a gas leak on East Market Street in Blairsville Borough.
