The 85th annual United Way campaign came to an official end this morning, and while they did not reach their goal, there was much to celebrate at their annual awards breakfast.
The 2016-2017 campaign raised a total of $679,822, just over $51,000 shy of their goal of $737,000, but the money raised in the campaign will go to help out the fifteen member agencies of the United Way. Also at their meeting, they introduced Laurie Kuzneski as the new campaign chair for the 2017-2018 year. She said that outside of the financial goal for the upcoming campaign, Kuzneski said she wants to raise awareness about the United Way and bring in more people to help. Joe Pittman of Senator Don White’s office was named as the campaign vice-chairman.
Also, Renda Broadcasting’s Bill Otto was the recipient of the “Great Things” award given to a person who has made a great impact in the campaign. Otto said he was honored to be recognized with the award, saying he would accept it on behalf of the listeners of the Oldies Attic who made contributions to the “Oldies Attic Turkeython” over the last 27 years. This year, the three-hour event on AM 1160 WCCS and 101.1 FM raised over $52,000.
