IUP has received state funding from the “It’s On Us, PA” program to address on-campus sexual assault.
As part of the recent round of grant funding to 36 colleges and universities, IUP will receive $30,000. That money will be put toward enrolling IUP in the Green Dot bystander program. According to Jessica Miller, the interim director of the Haven Project at IUP and a psychologist in IUP’s counseling center, the Green Dot program model views all community members as potential bystanders, and gives them the tools to recognize and respond to high-risk situations. The program has been shown to prevent multiple forms of interpersonal violence when a large amount of people are engaged as peers in the effort.
The “It’s On Us, PA” campaign is based on the nationwide “It’s On Us” campaign created by President Obama and Vice President Biden in 2014 to help keep men and women safe from sexual assault.
