State Representative Dave Reed and the United Way of Indiana County have jointly announced two public information events that will focus on information about local assistance programs.
A variety of assistance programs will be highlighted, with representatives from Indiana County Community Action, the Housing Authority of Indiana County, Aging Services, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medical Assistance, and other assistance programs providing information on their services.
The events are scheduled for northern Indiana County residents on Tuesday, March 7th from 10 AM to noon at the Mahoning Hills Senior Center along Route 119 North near Punxsutawney; and for southern Indiana County residents on Tuesday, March 21st from 10 AM to noon at the Chestnut Ridge Senior Center in Blairsville.
The sessions are designed to fulfill a need identified during Reed’s “Poverty Summits” of the last two years, getting the word out about assistance programs.
Reed and the United Way collaborated on the effort to gather the agencies under one roof for the two events, hoping to reach potentially underserved communities. One of the issues revealed by the Poverty Summits is difficulty with transportation for those in need of services. Similar events may be planned for the future, based on the success of the two events this month.
