PennDOT says a bridge rehabilitation project will get underway next week on Route 22 at the Indiana/Westmoreland county line in Blairsville.
Starting on Monday, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in both the westbound and eastbound lanes as workers prepare to shift all traffic to the eastbound lanes. The bridge carries Route 22 over the Conemaugh River, Route 217, and the Norfolk Southern rail line. The project will include repairs to the deck and substructure of the bridge, drainage work, and a new coat of paint.
Route 22 is a heavily-traveled highway and PennDOT says to expect congestion and delays, especially in the morning and evening rush hours. The agency is asking drivers to be aware of flaggers controlling the flow of traffic. The $4.65 million bridge rehabilitation is expected to be completed before the end of September.
