A Longtime music teacher in the Indiana County area has passed away.
Andrew Pecsenye passed away last Sunday at Beacon Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Before coming to Indiana Area School District, Pecsenye was a teacher in United. When he arrived in the Indiana School District in 1967, he took over both the instrumental and vocal music programs. During his time, he created the school’s A Capella Choir, a program that continues to run this day. Julianne Laird, a music teacher at both the Junior and Senior High Schools was a student of Pecsenye’s and said that she still uses his teachings this day when she sings. She had worked on a few songs for church when she was taking one-on-one lessons with him, and still uses his teachings as a guide when she sings them today.
Scott Salser is the current vocal music instructor at Indiana Senior High and was a student teacher under Pecsenye. He said it was the passion Pecsenye showed that made him want to return to Indiana when the position became available in 1991.
