IUP has announced that it will receive $1 million in recently distributed federal funds to help with four projects within the university.
The money comes from the $62.7 million in Build Back Better Regional Challenge Grants from the Biden Administration awarded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The five projects that were initially announced late last week that will receive funding are focused on Adoption, upskilling architecture, and commercialization in the robotics sector. The funding will be used for four initiatives at the university. Those initiatives are:
- The expansion of research capacity in AI and data analytical research through improvements to high-performance computing capabilities.
- Safety Science AI and Robotic Research as part of an interdisciplinary research program focused on short- and long-term research and other pivotal areas.
- Geological-Geospatial Intelligence
- The IUP STEAMSHOP, which transforms learning at the university by empowering students from all backgrounds and preparations to actively engage with an interdisciplinary digital fabrication lab that applies STEAM education knowledge to attract a more diverse population and improve undergraduate persistence and retention.
IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said the funding will help the university build on its strengths in STEAM education, and will also help the university expand its presence, partnerships and impact in the Pittsburgh Region.
