At 7:56 p.m., members of the Indiana Borough Police Department responded to the report of an armed robbery in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue. While responding, a second call was received indicating a gunshot was heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers located two injured persons, one suffering a gunshot wound.
The suspects were described as three males attempting to obstruct their identities.
Two separate crime scenes are being processed and the investigation is ongoing. Both victims have sought medical attention. There are no updates on their conditions.
Preliminary investigation indicates that this was not a random incident and police do not believe that there is a current risk to community safety. All residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, as this investigation is ongoing.
The Indiana Borough Police Department is being assisted by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Police Department, the Indiana County District Attorney’s office, and Pennsylvania State Police.

A shooting took place on Wayne Avenue in Indiana earlier this evening. Indiana University of Pennsylvania issued the following information:
At around 8 pm this evening (February 14), three African-American males dressed in black clothing, wearing ski masks were involved in a shooting in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue.
Everyone is suggested to stay locked indoors and remain until advised otherwise.
Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl confirmed that armed robberies took place at two residences on Wayne Avenue, and the scene is still under investigation. As of 9:50 p.m., according to a report from WTAE, Executive Director of Media Relations at IUP Michelle Fryling said, “The suspects are still at large.”
No confirmed reports on injuries have been issued as of 10 p.m.
Pennsylvania State Police and IUP Police are also at the scenes of the two incidents.
