The Indiana County Solar Co-operative is holding their second round of applications to the co-op.
The signups are now available online for the Solar Co-op that was initially offered in spring and summer of 2019. The co-op will provide those interested in having solar on their property some “installer-neutral support through each stage of the process of going solar.” The co-op takes advantage of bulk buying to get discounted pricing and quality installation. Co-op volunteers choose an installer on behalf of the group through a competitive bidding project. Joining the co-op does not commit anyone to purchasing solar power.
The first round of the solar co-op brought in over 90 participants and 20 signed installation contracts. According to the Indiana County Sustainable Economic Development Task Force, it is the highest number of participants of any co-ops in the state, beating out districts in the Upper Ohio Valley Region and Allegheny County. They project that members of the solar co-op will save over $1 million over the next 25 years.
Three informational sessions will be held over the next two months. The first one will be directed at businesses, and will be held on March 4th at the Indiana Borough Council Chambers at the Borough Building on North 8th Street starting at 9:00 AM. The first public session will be held at the Coney on March 14th at 2:30 PM, with a second session set for April 1st at Marion Center High School at 6:00 PM.
