After the pace of new flu cases two weeks ago slowed across Pennsylvania but accelerated in our region, it has slowed quite a bit in three of the five counties in the past week.
Indiana County had 55 new flu cases (after adding 67 the week before). The county has now had 775 lab-confirmed cases of flu this season…478 Type B, and 297 Type A.
The pace slowed everywhere except in Clearfield and Jefferson counties. Clearfield added 127 two weeks ago and 160 more last week, for a flu season total of 1,070. Jefferson had 59 new cases last week, compared to 56 two weeks ago. The total there is 601 for the season.
Armstrong County’s total is now at 565, with 42 new cases in the last week. Cambria County has had 1,655 flu cases, after adding 118 last week. Westmoreland County had 195 new flu cases last week, a dramatic drop from the 290 new cases two weeks ago. There have been 3,382 flu cases there this season.
Pennsylvania had nine more deaths from the flu last week, after eight died the week before. So far, there have been 83 flu-related deaths this season. The state Health Department says Type A has been gaining momentum in recent weeks after Type B dominated the statistics for much of the season.
