State Senator Scott Martin yesterday tweeted a graphic illustration of bipartisan support for a constitutional amendment designed to prevent any future governor of Pennsylvania from usurping the power of the people by cutting the General Assembly out of the loop and shutting down the state’s economy. A joint resolution passed by the Senate is now due for consideration in the House of Representatives.
Senator Joe Pittman and all of his Republican colleagues voted for the resolution, as did seventy percent of Democrats. Specifically, the resolution provides for two separate amendments, one for racial equality and the other limiting the duration of disaster declarations.
Amending the constitution requires a majority vote in two consecutive sessions of the General Assembly, followed by a voter referendum.
