PennDOT is looking for input from drivers concerning traffic safety and driving behaviors through their annual safety survey.
More than 10,000 people responded to last year’s survey, and the results showed that many drivers in Pennsylvania say they are driving safely. Nearly 91 percent of drivers say they wear their seatbelt, and 89 percent say they never drive while impaired. It also showed that the car’s radio and heating and air conditioning was a distraction for many drivers. Thirty eight percent of those surveyed said that they were distracted with adjusting radio or climate control system. Thirty seven percent said it was something outside the car that distracted them, and 14 percent of survey takers say they were distracted by a cell phone while behind the wheel.
The survey results will help “gauge participants’ attitudes on highway safety,” and adjust safety activities to focus on trouble areas.
