At a special meeting Thursday night, the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board voted to remain in the current remote format until mid-January.
Students will stay in the remote format until January 11th, and the board will meet again in early January to reconsider the matter. Many board members, including board president Rick Harper called it one of the hardest decisions that the board has made.
The board was told that Saltsburg High School would have to close as they had five confirmed cases of Covid-19 among students along with two faculty cases. Saltsburg elementary had two students and one staffer test positive for Covid-19. On the Blairsville side, the elementary school had a teacher test positive and a second teacher in quarantine, and a student case was reported in Blairsville High School.
Also discussed last night was sports, which will remain on-schedule for now with practices set to start December 8th. Harper said that he felt surprised that many of the governing bodies for high school sports and the PA Department of Health gave their approval.
The next board meeting will be December 8th and that will be its reorganization meeting.
