Indiana Borough Police have charged two adults with, and one of them with simple assault, after an investigation of a reported child abuse situation.
27-year-old Quamir Mathis is charged with two counts each of felony endangering the welfare of children and misdemeanor simple assault. 28-year-old Amber Bailey is charged with a single felony count of endangering the welfare of children.
Police say that due to the extensive and sensitive nature of the investigation, they worked collaboratively with Indiana County Children and Youth Services, the CARE Center of Indiana County, and the office of the district attorney before bringing the charges.
The alleged abuse took place at an apartment in the 500 block of Philadelphia Street. Police began investigating on February 27th and say they found that two children, both under age four, had been struck with a belt, resulting in physical injuries, and that both children had been left alone inside the apartment on multiple occasions.
Bailey is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 20th. Mathis is scheduled for his hearing the next day. Both are free on unsecured bond.
In another report, Borough Police say they have charged 38-year-old William Balint IV with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, terroristic threats, and driving with a suspended license after an incident December 2nd in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 300 block of Philadelphia Street.
Police were summoned for an unresponsive male inside a vehicle and found Balint behind the wheel and intoxicated. They report that while he was in custody, Balint threatened the officers.
