On this day 40 years ago, WCCS Radio came on the air for the first time.
The station was founded by Ray Goss and Mark Harley, who had served as general managers for radio stations in the area. Not long after they left their respective stations, the two came together to form Raymark Communications. The station started as “AM 1520: The Adult Address” for the adult contemporary music format they played, but within three years, moved down the dial to AM 1160. The station was purchased by Renda Broadcasting out of Pittsburgh in 2002, and in 2008, the station changed from full-service adult contemporary format to the News/Talk format we have today.
Within the last year, the station made another jump to spread its signal by streaming online through our website, wccsradio.com.
