Jeff Pyle, who represents parts of Indiana, Armstrong and Butler counties in the state house, has announced his retirement effective at the end of business today.
Pyle was first elected to the PA House in November of 2004 and chaired the House Gaming Oversight Committee. He also lead the second amendment caucus and coal caucus for 10 years in each organization. He authored legislation on provisions regarding emergency personnel in operating underground mines, regulating unmanned aircraft for safety and privacy, and providing veterans with a special designation on their driver’s license. He is also credited with bringing a Butler Community College Campus to Ford City and with legislating and funding the reopening of river locks on the Allegheny River using public-private partnerships.
Pyle says that while he wants to continue to serve, he now has to put his health first. Pyle was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February of 2005, and it returned to his chest in October of 2017. In 2020, he suffered a stroke, and he continues his rehabilitation and cancer treatment.
