Layoffs have been announced for the Homer City Generating Station.
NRG Energy announced that 43 positions will be laid off. The exact positions are not known at this time, but the layoffs will affect both union and non-union jobs. The layoffs will take effect in May.
In a statement, NRG Energy representatives said that the “workforce reductions, while difficult, are necessary to preserve as many jobs as possible while continuing viable and safe operations of the plant” and are not connected to Governor Tom Wolf’s push to have the state join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
