A Punxsutawney man died Friday morning in a crash on Route 210 and Valier Road in North Mahoning Township.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. said that 81-year-old Ronald Coon was driving north on Route 210 when the vehicle he was driving hit a guide rail head-on. The vehicle went over the guide rail and down an embankment, where it came to rest on the driver’s side in a grassy area.
A witness saw Coon swerve several times before impact. It is believed that Coon may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash. Overman said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and Coon was not wearing his seatbelt at the time.
Overman ruled the death as accidental due to a blunt force trauma to the head.
The McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney is handling the funeral arrangements.
Perry Township, Punxsy’s Lindsey Fire Departments and State Police were on the scene investigating the crash.
