Earlier today, the Indiana County Commissioners joined Indiana in the Morning to address some the public’s frequently asked questions.
Robin Gorman started the discussion with an update on the funds from the American Rescue Plan. She said the commissioners haven’t heard anything on what the funds can be put towards. Instead, they have only heard what they cannot be used for.
Chairman Michael Keith said that there could be some new broadband projects coming in the future. He said the recently passed $1.5 million grant can possibly be matched to fund different projects around the county.
He said the Commissioners are working closely with the Office of Planning and Development’s Executive Director Byron Stauffer and Indiana County Emergency Management Director Tom Stutzman to design some possible projects, but nothing is set in stone yet.
The Commissioners also said that they will be monitoring and watching the budget during the next few weeks, after citing a loss in revenue during the first quarter. The session was capped off with the recognition of the Alice Paul House – for its efforts during Sexual Assault Awareness Month – and the Indiana County 9-1-1 dispatchers for their around-the-clock effort.
