Monday night, the Indiana School Board gave preliminary approval to their 2021-2022 budget, which contains no tax increase for the district’s citizens.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the district has held the line on property taxes, and the district is estimated to have a budget surplus by $1,706,575. Audit and finance committee chairperson Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro said that the budget for the district is in good shape.
The budget will be approved at board’s special meeting on June 28th, 2021.
In other business, the board approved option A for the Eisenhower entrance way project, directing architects to proceed with the design based on the design that showed new construction in the courtyard in the front of the building. The vote came 5-4. Tom Harley voted against it, saying more work needed to be done with the design.
Terry Kerr talked about why he voted in favor of the plan.
In other business, the board voted to advertise for one new art teacher and two elementary synchronous instructors. The vote was split 7-2 with Cinda Brode and Terry Kerr voting against the motion. Prior to that motion, Barbara Barker tried to amend the motion to have the district post for two art teachers, but the amendment failed by an 8-1 vote.
The board also accepted donations of money for Eisenhower educators, including $500 from the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association to the school’s music teachers, $600 from the United Area Education Association and $525 from the Homer-Center Education Association to help buy classroom supplies. That brings the total donations to over $5000 from educator associations.
