YOUTH LEGION
Top seeded Marion Center blasted Punxsy S&T Bank, 18-1 in a five-inning game last night to claim their semifinal series, two games to none. Marion Center scored five times in the top of the first inning and eight more times in the second, adding two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Nick Pacconi, Braden Reichenbach, and Owen Conner each had three hits and Alex Stewart and Travis Midock each had two. Reichanbach and Stewart split the pitching duties, with Reichanbach going the first three (no hits allowed) and Stewart the final two.
In the other semifinal, second-seeded S.W. Jack erased a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth, capping the scoring with a four-run seventh for an 11-5 win over Armstrong, and setting up a deciding game three tonight in Indiana.
S.W. Jack’s Michael Tortorella was 3-for-4 and drive in three runners and Trevor Smith was 2-for-3, driving in four.
The winner of tonight’s game will meet Marion Center for the Indiana County Youth Legion title.
SENIOR LEGION
At Saltsburg yesterday, Brice Laurenti’s bases loaded single in the seventh inning gave Young Township a 5-4 win over Murrysville in the opening game of their Westmoreland County League Senior Legion District 31 playoff series.
Saltsburg grad and IUP recruit Brady Yard had two doubles and Laurenti and teammate Cody Templeton also had two hits. West Shamokin grad Blake Fairman got the win, striking out seven Murrysville batters.
