Marion Center claimed the 2021 Indiana County Youth American Legion League Championship with an 11-1 mercy rule victory over visiting S.W. Jack of Indiana Saturday afternoon at Marion Center, winning the series two games to one.
Marion Center jumped on the Drillers, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, and they added four more in the fourth inning to grab a commanding 8-0 lead.
S.W. Jack scored its lone run in the fifth inning, but Marion Center ended the game early with a three-run sixth, giving Manager Mike Pacconi the league title and family bragging rights over his father Mitch, who completed his 34th season as coach of the Drillers.
With the victory, Marion Center advances to the PA Youth Legion Western Regional tournament starting next Friday in Punxsutawney. Marion Center will face Connellsville at 4:00 PM Friday afternoon at Kuntz Field.
