The Steelers yesterday signed their final draft pick, on the eve of training camp reporting day for rookies.
Center Kendrick Green agreed to a four-year rookie contract. He was the team’s third-round draft pick out of Illinois and is expected to make a strong push to take over the job of the retired Maurkice Pouncey. The Steelers even assigned Green Pouncey’s old number, 53. His competition will be veteran backups BJ Finney and JC Hassenauer.
The first workouts are scheduled tomorrow at the team’s UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side. Veterans are required to report to camp by next Tuesday.
