The preliminary hearing for an Apollo man charged in connection with an incident in Saltsburg in May has been continued to a later date, according to officials from the Indiana County Magisterial Court.
25-year-old Austin Thomas Hopkins was to go before district judge Robert Bell Sr. this morning, after police say he was involved in an altercation with his brother on May 27, where he picked up a knife and chased his brother into the street. Police later found a fully-loaded 12-gauge shotgun, along with other items, wrapped in a black hooded sweatshirt, and it was later discovered that Hopkins was not allowed to possess a firearm.
Officials say the trial was continued since Hopkins was unable to attend the hearing, citing that he was moved out of Indiana County Jail and into Allegheny County Jail. They did not say why Hopkins was moved.
The new date for Hopkins’s preliminary hearing is Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in front of Judge Bell.
