After going through a list of ten options, the Indiana School Board’s Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Committee selected four options for grade reconfiguration as a part of last night’s committee meeting and public engagement session.
The discussion was facilitated last night by representatives with Strategy Solutions, who presented a list of ten options that the board members could choose from, and each board member was asked to rank their preferences. The four options that are being advanced for further discussion include:
- Having Pre-K to 3rd grade in two buildings, putting 4th and 5th grades in a third building and keeping the junior and senior high at their current levels, and the closure of one of the district’s elementary buildings.
- Three Elementary K-5 buildings, keeping the 6th to 8th grades at the junior high and 9th to 12th grades at the senior high , closing one elementary building
- Keeping the status quo with k-3 at two elementary buildings, 4th and 5th at the other two elementary schools, and 6th to 8th at the junior high and 9th to 12th at the senior high
- Pre-K to 4th grades in three elementary buildings, making the junior high 5th to 8th grades, and the senior high remains the same. One elementary school would be closed under this option.
Superintendent Mike Vuckovich said that if after these four options are vetted that the board doesn’t approve of them, they have the chance to change their mind.
Two more public engagement sessions are planned for the grade reconfiguration discussion, with the next one happening at the September buildings, grounds and transportation committee meeting.
