Fire crews were busy early this morning with two fires reported in Indiana County.
The first fire was reported on Penn Street in Cherry Tree Borough. Indiana County 911 made the initial call at 1:05 AM. Cherry Tree, Hope and Commodore fire departments were called out to the dwelling fire. Cherry Tree Fire Chief Patrick Petro said the fire gutted the home, but everyone inside was able to get out. The home was owned by Anne Blystone. Mahaffey and Westover Fire Departments were called out later to assist while Spangler Fire Department provided a ladder truck at the scene and a few hours later, Burnside and Nicktown fire departments provided tanker assists. While the State Police Fire Marshals have been called in to investigate, Chief Petro believes the cause was related to the furnace.
A second structure fire was reported around 3:00 this morning in South Mahoning Township. The reported barn fire was at 1497 Ambrose Road. Crews from Plumville, Marion Center, Rural Valley and Clymer fire departments along with the RIG team were initially called out and said that fire was showing from the barn when they got there. The barn was a small structure, and we heard that crews were able to get the fire under control quickly. Few other details are known about this fire.
