Several fire departments were called out to an excavator fire Friday morning in Conemaugh Township.
Indiana County 911 dispatched Tunnelton and Saltsburg firefighters to a location along Swisco Road around 9:14 a.m. for a fire that started in an excavator used to raze a house on site. Iselin/West Lebanon Fire Department was called out to provide tanker assistance seven minutes later, while Coal Run/McIntyre firefighters and Life Stat Ambulance were called to assist around 9:25.
Dave Bruzda with the Tunnelton Fire Department said the excavator was engulfed in flames by the time fire crews arrived and the fire extended to the remnants of the house. The Conemaugh Township Volunteer Fire Department rescue team was also called in and they were able to retrieve two attack lines. One of them was active.
No injuries were reported and state police fire marshals were called in to investigate the cause.
