A longtime sports figure in Homer-Center and a former building manager for the district has passed away.
Thomas E. Dixson, also known as “Coach” to many passed away on November 28th. He served the Homer-Center School District as the building manager for 30 years, and he also was known for refereeing and coaching basketball and umpiring baseball. While Homer-Center High School Principal Jody Rainey said that he came aboard in Dixson’s last year as the building manager in 2012, and he and Dixon became good friends and he would ask him for advice on certain matters.
Dixson was also getting back into the coaching scene after he was named the junior high girls basketball coach. Rainey said that the district is working on a plan to name a new coach to take his place, but Rainey added that no one could truly take his place.
Dixson passed away one day after his 75th birthday.
