The university said that Retired Rear Admiral CJ Jaynes has established the scholarship in her name. Originally from Greensburg, and now living in Hollywood, Maryland, she graduated in 1979 with a mathematics bachelor’s degree and earned a master’s in mathematics in 1982 and was recognized as a distinguished alumnus in 2017. In her career in the Navy, she spent 33 years as an Aeronautical (Maintenance) Engineering Duty Officer and Acquisition Professional, and in 2012, she became only the 79th woman to be promoted to Rear Admiral. In May of 2021, the Council of Trustees acknowledged her contributions by naming a tutoring room in the John J. and Char Kopchick Hall as “The Admiral’s Study”.
The scholarship is for full-time IUP undergraduate students who are veterans, but children of veterans are also welcome to apply. The first applications will be accepted for the 2024-25 school year.
