Gas price averages in Indiana County are starting to trend downward, as well as the statewide and national averages.
The average cost of a gallon of gas across the United States as of this morning is $3.37 a gallon. That’s down two cents from last week and three cents over the last month. Gas prices last year were significantly lower at $2.16 a gallon on average.
As news started to spread of the new omicron variant of the Covid-19 variant, the cost of crude oil fell to $67 as of this morning, representing a dip of more than $10 a barrel. Experts with Triple-A say that it’s too soon to tell if fears of a global economic slowdown caused by the variant would push oil prices lower for the long term, but drivers did get a bit of a break at the pump.
Pennsylvania’s average is currently $3.57 a gallon, which is a two-cent decrease over last week, but it has held steady over the last month. Pennsylvania’s average is actually the 10th highest average gas price in the nation.
Indiana County’s average is $3.56 a gallon, tying it with Jefferson County to the north. The lowest averages in our region are in Westmoreland and Armstrong counties, with both reporting a $3.53 a gallon average. Cambria has a $3.58 a gallon average, while Clearfield has the highest in the region at $3.59 a gallon. The highest average in Pennsylvania is in Pike County at $3.65 a gallon, while the lowest average is in Centre County at $3.51 a gallon.
Gas prices in Indiana, Shelocta, Homer City and Burrell Township are checking in with prices of $3.55 a gallon. Clymer’s gas price is higher at $3.59 a gallon, while the Blairsville Borough Sheetz has the lowest in the county with a $3.49 a gallon price, according to GasBuddy.com
