While the All-Star festivities are still over a week away, last night was a home-run derby exhibition for the Pirates as they routed the New York Mets. In fact, with all the Pirates home runs, they ran out of celebratory pyrotechnics. Joe Block reports.
The Pirates and the Mets will resume play this afternoon. Bailey Falter will start for the Bucs. He is 4-6 with a 3.87 era, and the Mets will send David Peterson who is 3-0 with a 3.51 era this season.
Some bad news on the injury front for the Bucs. Manager Derek Shelton shut down Pitcher Jared Jones, as he said that Jones had a grade two lat muscle strain. Jones is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list on July 19 but the shutdown likely means his absence will be extended beyond that date. Jones will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
