SAMA SUMMER OF CREATIVITY

Wed Jun 25, 2025 8:00 AM - Sun Jul 27, 2025 5:00 PM (EDT)

This summer, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA) is thrilled to offer two exciting art camps for young artists to use their imaginations and explore the creative process! We will provide programs for two age groups, ages 5-9 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (“Art Camp”), and ages 10-14 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 p.m. (“Emerging Artists Workshop”). We have something for everyone at our SAMA Altoona, Bedford, and Ligonier young artists summer events. Students in both age groups will be encouraged to experiment with the tools of art and explore the creative process. Camp sessions will be taught by SAMA Teaching Artists: Stan Synder in Altoona, Carol Lusk in Bedford and Stephanie Oplinger at our Ligonier location.
Our young artists’ summer events will be held at various off-site locations in Altoona, Bedford and Ligonier. We will offer our Altoona “Art Camp” and “Emerging Artists Workshop” at the Fairview Hills Community Center the week of July 14-18, 2025. Bedford’s Art Camps will be held at the Presbyterian Church the week of June 23-27, 2025. Our Ligonier Art Camps will be held at the Loyalhanna Watershed Association Barn the week of July 21-25, 2025 for Emerging Artists and June 16-20 for Art Camp. Registration for all of SAMA’s summer young artist events is $125 per child, which includes all materials and daily snacks.
Encourage your child’s creativity by signing them up for SAMA’s young artists events. Our “Art Camp”, ages 5-9 meets from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Our young artists will have fun learning how to use various tools used in creating art. SAMA art camps are a great opportunity for children who love to create, explore and use their imaginations. We will experiment with different types of paint, clay, and sculptures all while creating beautiful and unique works of art.
Older students looking to expand their artistic talents are encouraged to attend “Emerging Artists Workshop” for ages 10-14 years. These sessions will meet from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. SAMA teachers encourage our young artists to be creative problem solvers, innovative thinkers and imaginative explorers. With hands-on guidance students will dive into more complex art forms while expanding their artistic horizons, making new friends, and discovering the joy of creating art. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore the world of art with SAMA!
Registration is now open for both summer programs and space is limited! Early sign-up for SAMA “Art Camp” and “Emerging Artists Workshop” is encouraged and can be completed online or in-person at the Altoona, Bedford and Ligonier Museum locations. SAMA’s children’s art camps are made possible by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and generous donors like the Grable Foundation, Jack Buncher Foundation and the Wolf-Kuhn Foundation. Scholarships are made possible by funding from the Syra Bettwy Fund and the Stephen J. Pellegrine Scholarship Fund and are available upon request.
