Why do you do what you do?
I’m not really sure – I think it’s something in your blood that allows you to help others in a time of need – during often the worst moments of their lives. It’s our job to help them out of the situation they are in start them on a path of healing and rebuilding. It’s a great feeling to be able to be trained and to be able to put your acquired skills to work to help others.
What or who influenced you to get into public service?
Growing up my parents also were in volved in all kinds of public service through civic organizations and the like – my dad was named Civic Leader of the Year and my mom was an Athena Award winner – so giving back to the community was always part of our upbringing.
My brother Tom volunteered with the IFA for 35 years, along with cousins Ted, Mike, Don, Ken, John – 5 generations of Moreau’s have volunteered since 1878 with the IFA. Great lineage of service
What part of this service has been the most gratifying?
Probably the friendships I’ve had over the years – the pianos & pool tables we’ve moved, roofs we have installed, the households we have relocated, we all have endless stories that are part the fire dept family that keeps us all going. We could send a text or email right now and have enough help to accomplish whatever is needed, anytime any place – good caring people.
What part of this service has been the hardest?
Lots of sad memories, it’s difficult to clear your brain of some of the sadness – but I can tell you it’s all worth it – anyone in the fire service would tell you the same.
What do you do to earn a living?
I’m a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway – I’ve been licensed since the early 90’s, I’d spent a career in economic development at IUP as well, now focused 100% on buying and selling.
