During the ceremonies, many got up to speak in tribute to former Mayor George Hood, who stepped down from his post at the start of the year due to health problems. He moved in with his daughter, who lives in White Township, and was forced to give up his position as he was no longer a borough resident.
During his tribute speech, Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl gave out a piece of trivia about Mayor Hood’s middle name, which Schawl said was very fitting to the former Mayor.
Mayor Hood was also given the Police Chief’s Medal of Commendation, and November 6th was proclaimed George Hood Day. Hood said that he felt he was a good mayor because he trusted those that surrounded him.
Hood served as mayor of Indiana Borough for 23 years, and oversaw many events including Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration and the sendoffs and homecomings of troops going overseas.
